Longview ISD is reminding all contract employees of the upcoming penalty-free resignation deadline for the 2025–26 school year on Friday, June 27, 2025, by 11:59 p.m.
This deadline applies to employees working under a “Chapter 21” contract—a term that refers to educators and professional staff covered under Chapter 21 of the Texas Education Code. This includes, but is not limited to: teachers, counselors, librarians, assistant principals, principals, and other staff in certified roles.
Under state law, employees in these positions may resign without penalty up until 45 calendar days before the first instructional day of the school year. This year, that date is June 27, 2025.
To resign, employees must formally submit a resignation through Informed K12, the district’s electronic platform for HR documents. Resignations submitted after the deadline—without good cause as defined by state law—may result in sanctions from the State Board for Educator Certification (SBEC) and may disqualify the employee from future employment within Longview ISD.
Additionally, employees who do not take action to either accept their contract or submit a resignation by the June 27 deadline will be considered to have automatically accepted their contract for the 2025–26 school year.
If you are unsure whether you are a Chapter 21 contract employee or have questions about the resignation process, please contact the Human Resources department at 903-381-2200 for assistance.
